Depression: Not So Depressing Anymore?

Nice long piece in the NYT about the long history of diagnosis, theory and treatment. I missed some key elements going from pg. 1 to pg. 7 and rushing this to you, because I don't have time to read it all right now. Something about cell death in the hippocampus.

  1. Thank you for the link to this article. It doesn't solve the mystery of depression, but does reveal that it is more complex than some (Freud for example) thought. I doubt that "depression" will be solved or 'cured' in my lifetime, but I am happy that there is new work going on that may provide more insight. But I still wish that Prosac had been a miracle drug 30 years ago.
